Review: Hershey PA, 2001

Sunday we drove to Hershey with our three children. My son Matt got to meet Mark McClurg who signed his guitar for him. Mark is a wonderful guy to take time out for my son. Monty also talked to us for a bit. We enjoyed Trick Pony; they have some nice harmonies and a really strong stage presence. They also play some wicked instruments including a bass that has headlights that light up when its played. Anyway, Alan came out this time wearing a dark blue shirt (for all you fashion gurus I remembered this time), and basically sang the same set as Saturday. I had asked Mark if he was going to sing Where I Come From and he said he thought he was. My kids are really big fans, its in their genes I guess and know the words to all the songs. During It Must Be Love, the camera man zoomed in on Rachel and Matt and low and behold my KIDS faces were magnified up on the big screen as they were singing their lungs out! LOL !!!! People in the rows in front and behind us seemed to get such a kick out of them as they were so into the music and never missed a beat! One older man was so impressed that my six year old knew all the words to all the songs. He kept checking to see if she was singing every so often and would be amazed that she always was. Anyway it was getting closer and closer to where he sang Where I Come From. I told Rachel he would probably sing it as she was starting to say she was getting tired. Then JUST before he wouldve sang it, Alan said since it was Sunday he wanted to sing "What Kind of Man". My heart fell. I was afraid he was replacing the song. I love What Kind of Man, but I so much wanted Rachel to hear her song. Then the second it was over, he broke into Where I Come From. YEA!!!!!!! My kids were ecstatic! We stood up, and I held Rachel up above me every time that Alan sang the chorus. They were singing it even louder than they sang It Must Be Love. Mark pointed at them with his fiddle bow and laughed at them. Then I think (or my husband says definitely), Alan also acknowledged them and seemed to be chuckling. I couldn't tell for sure because I had Rachel up in front of me. Anyway it truly made this family's night!!!!!! The rest of the show was the same as before and Rachel was so hepped up she forgot about sleeping and made it thru the rest of the show. I have to say that although front row seats are just about the best seat in the house, being able to share in my children's joy in Alan's music was an even better high for me. (Even my twelve year old son Chris, who DID meet his idol Alan Jackson when he was three, and is now too cool to like country was singing along, unless of course someone looked at him.....lololol). Anyway there ya have it. The kids curled up in their pjs with pillows and blankets and slept all the way home. My hubby and I reminisced about the entire weekend and played Alan Jackson tapes all the way home.
